Important Note

It's not where they came from- it's how they're represented.

We know that there are many, many good people who buy horses at auctions and sales, horses that would otherwise be slaughter-bound.  They may also buy neglected or abused horses from individuals with the sole purpose of placing them in caring and appropriate new homes.  It is a noble effort and we have nothing but admiration for those people who use their own time, money and abilities to "rehome" unfortunate animals.  Some traders may masquerade as men and women trying to save horses.  We'll try to help you tell the difference.

An ethical horse dealer will ask you as many questions as you ask him.  If he has rescued a horse from a sale barn or purchased it from an individual with the expectation of selling it, his veterinarian has probably examined the animal.  If the horse was in poor condition when he bought it, he may have taken photographs to document how much healthier it is now, and will enjoy showing you. He will have spent months observing how the horse reacts to training, new situations, and a gentle hand. He will be able to tell you all sorts of details about the horse's level of training, its temperament, and its soundness.  He will want to match the horse to the most suitable new owner.  He will happily provide all the details to complete the  sale contract attached to this website, because he is proud to be able to tell the truth about his horse and has nothing to hide.
